The Fleet Map got a rethink — SparkBox is a shipyard, not another planet
Posted by tomspark
Small but meaningful change to the fleet map at tomsparkbox.com. SparkBox used to sit in the middle as its own planet. That never felt right — planets are the big centralized empires you're escaping (you can see them out there: AWS, Google, Netflix and friends, dead worlds on the edge of the map). SparkBox isn't one of them. It gives you the tools and sends you flying. So now the fleet flies free through open space, and SparkBox is THE SHIPYARD — a little asteroid outpost with gold work lights, drifting along with the fleet it builds. Also clearer now: gold battleships are Backers AND Legends — if you're either, you pick, reroll and name your ship in Settings on your dashboard (update 1.6.343 fixes the wording that said Legends only). Free boxes fly as the little purple drones buzzing alongside. Go find your ship.

Update on this: the map opens on the full galaxy view now, and it's not a quiet galaxy anymore. Watch for a minute and you'll see crimson raider wings sortie out of the corporate regions to try to drag the fleet back into the cloud. The battleships handle it. They always do. Also gave the shipyard a big upgrade: five distinct ship classes (dart, cruiser, dreadnought, carrier, corvette), so the fleet finally looks like a real navy instead of clones. Backers & Legends — reroll yours in Settings if you want a fresh hull.
