SparkBox patches — Fri Oct 2, 2026
Posted by Chris
SparkBox releases shipped on Fri Oct 2, 2026 (UTC), in order, newest at the bottom. This thread is updated as releases land during the day. Update from the SparkBox dashboard, or run sudo sparkbox upgrade on your SparkBox host. Legend boxes get every release the day it ships; free boxes get it after it has run there for a week. If a problem remains after updating, submit a private support ticket or reply below with the app name, what you expected, and what happened instead. Earlier days: Thu Oct 1, 2026 · Wed Sep 30, 2026 · Tue Sep 29, 2026 · Mon Sep 28, 2026 · Sun Sep 27, 2026 · Sat Sep 26, 2026 · Fri Sep 25, 2026 v1.6.834 — Your own web addresses show up again in the dashboard, and Hearth's first open is one step at a time - If you gave an app its own web address (Custom Domains, or Hearth's "Public domain" option), the dashboard has read that address as switched off since 1.6.808: app tiles opened by IP and port instead of your address, Hearth's "How it's reached" picker kept falling back to Tailscale, and the Security page did not count a dashboard you published on your own address as reachable from the internet. Your addresses are read correctly again; nothing about them changed on the internet side. - Opening Hearth Chat for the first time no longer stacks the access picker, a password prompt and the first-login card on one click. You pick how it's reached first; the join code is where the card now says it is, in Settings → Service Passwords ("Hearth join code"), and the card no longer shows a startup log line as if it were a password. - The "How it's reached" picker only marks an option CURRENT once it really reaches the app, and App Store cards no longer read "~~150MB RAM". v1.6.835 — Tom AI stops re-checking your whole box on every message - In the same chat, Tom AI used to take a full snapshot of your box, run the doctor and read the VPN logs again for almost every message, and often ended with "I dug into it but ran out of steps before wrapping up" instead of answering. It now remembers which checks it ran in the last 10 minutes of a chat and answers your new question from them, checking again only when your question needs something new, when you say something changed, or after it has fixed something. - When Tom AI is close to its limit for one reply, it now writes up what it found instead of starting another check. v1.6.836 — Tom AI explains a held-back repair in plain words, the disk breakdown works on a full drive, and VPNs that can't use WireGuard are caught when you save - When Tom AI decided not to run a repair yet, it could show you its own internal instructions instead of an answer, the same text on every message. It now tells you in plain words what it would need to see. If an app's database has stopped accepting its password (for example Jellystat after moving SparkBox to a new drive), pasting the database's "password authentication failed" line into the chat is now enough for Tom AI to offer the database login repair. The repair saves a copy of the database first. - Asking Tom AI what is filling your disk could answer that the biggest folders in SparkBox's data folder "could not be measured", usually on a full or busy drive. Each folder is now measured on its own, so you get the list, any folder that took too long is named, and your media folder is no longer measured twice. - Choosing a VPN provider that only works with OpenVPN (such as IPVanish, ExpressVPN, CyberGhost or Private Internet Access) while WireGuard was selected left the VPN unable to start, and the Media Center install looked stuck. Saving that combination now stops with a message: switch to OpenVPN and enter your provider's username and password, or choose Other / Custom and import the WireGuard file your provider gave you. v1.6.837 — The health check stops blaming your media folder when it runs without sudo, and Tom AI says an empty drive is empty - Typing the health check as sparkbox doctor, without sudo, could warn that your apps can't write to or read your media folder and suggest permission fixes, even when the folder was fine. Without sudo it couldn't test the folder the way your apps use it, and it took that as a problem. It now runs that test whenever it can, and when it can't, it says so and tells you to run sudo sparkbox doctor instead. - On a new box whose Movies, TV and downloads folders are still empty, asking Tom AI what is filling your disk said the biggest folders on the media drive "could not be measured". It now says nothing is stored there yet.
