How much as a percent does a VPN affect download speed?

Tech noob here. It seems like there are a ton of factors affecting download speeds. The primary ones I’ve read about being (1) Port Forwarding vs Non-Port Forwarding, a (2) WireGuard vs OpenVPN, and (3) distance from location. (Hopefully I’m not missing anything material?) My question would be, in the ideal circumstances (port forwarding + WireGuard + nearby location) how much would you practically expect your download speed to be reduced by, if at all? Figured I’d ask here because you have a ton of experience with VPNs. Thanks!

1. port forwarding is something hyped by a ton of people on a old subreddit vpntorrents, who was banned because they got bought out. they loved pushing archaic vpns like airvpn while other vpns they shilled for years removed port forwarding. its not a huge deal, because the vpns that support it kinda suck and some of the best ones dont support it 2. wireguard is always better 3. yes pick somewhere close with a good VPN? maybe 5-10%. https://realvpnspeeds.com/ check out this site i made awhile ago
