That’s a reasonable request. SparkBox doesn’t currently offer a setting to choose a different backup drive; the backup location is fixed. I can’t verify a safe supported way to relocate existing backups, so please don’t move the backup folder by hand.

A correction and a fix on this one. There's no dashboard setting for it yet (it's logged as a feature request), but you can already save a backup straight onto any drive you choose from the command line. My earlier "the location is fixed" was wrong there, sorry about that. 1. Find the folder where your other drive is mounted, for example /mnt/backupdrive. 2. Run sudo sparkbox backup --dest /mnt/backupdrive/sparkbox-backups (use your drive's real path). It checks that drive has room first, then finishes with a "Backup created:" line and the file name, sparkbox-full-<date.tar.gz. Keep that folder private: a backup made this way isn't encrypted and holds your app passwords. To restore from it later, give the full path: sudo sparkbox restore /mnt/backupdrive/sparkbox-backups/sparkbox-full-<date.tar.gz. While checking this I found that a backup to a USB stick formatted for Windows or Mac, or to a network share, could stop part-way on some boxes. That's fixed in SparkBox 1.6.892, so if your drive is one of those, run sudo sparkbox upgrade first. Legend boxes get 1.6.892 now; boxes without a paid licence get it about a week after release. The dashboard's Back up now and scheduled backups still save on the system drive. You can copy any of them off the box from Settings → Backup → Local archives → Download. What the assistant knows about this has been updated, so the next person who asks gets this answer.
