Custom server hardware build enable KVM VirtualizationPosted by Technofly17Hi anyone in the same boat that decided they would build their server themselves with parts they had laying around and buying some extra bits here and there. ENABLE KVM VIRTUALIZATION! It's in the BIOS of your machine and then I also had to enable it in proxmox as that's what I'm using to run an ubuntu VM with sparkbox on it (yes I know really roundabout and complex way of doing this for a first timer). Since I started using sparkbox it had been quite clunky and slow naive me assumed it was a software optimization thing until recently while trying to set up a minecraft server with crafty controller through sparkbox I ran into great difficulty for many reasons but finally the big one was my cpu just couldnt handle the load causing the tick rate to fall behind causing a forced crash. after having an AI sift through the logs to discover it was a cpu issue I want down the rabbit hole of not virtualizing a cpu in proxmox and instead using the host setting which couldnt work because KVM Virtualization was not enabled both in proxmox and the BIOS. Anyways safe to say my sparkbox now runs like butter in a summer heatwave. Kudos to Tom I always loved sparkbox but now that it runs this smooth I am astonished at the level of polish so far.1 repliesChris wrote:Thanks for sharing this, and glad SparkBox runs smoothly on your server now. Virtualization being off in the BIOS is an easy step to miss, so this is useful for anyone building a home server. Good luck with the Minecraft server.
