Custom domain Issues
Posted by Glooperdootle
My SparkBox instance is fully updated, but I’ve been running into issues trying to set up a custom domain over the past couple of hours. Every subdomain I attempt to add returns the same error: “Make sure Nginx Proxy Manager is running, DNS for the domain points to this server, then try again.” I’ve also tried configuring it manually with no success. When I test the domain in a browser, it doesn’t load and the address bar shows domain:9999. On a related note, I’ve noticed that the “Check for app updates” button is greyed out. I know some of the containers are out of date and I’d like to update them if possible, but I’m not sure how to proceed with updates in this state.

That error means the dashboard couldn't reach Nginx Proxy Manager to create the domain -- check its tile is green on your Apps page first. The domain:9999 in the address bar is a separate, already-known gap: custom domains don't fully take over app links yet, so it falls back to your box's normal address with the port tacked on. Not something you broke. For the greyed-out update button: that usually means the last check never finished, often because the box can't reach the update server. Restart the dashboard app from the Apps page, then hit Check for updates again. Still stuck? Run sudo sparkbox doctor over SSH -- it'll point at what's blocking it.
