Just downloaded on linux mint 22.3 all is working well except I cannot enter VPN settings. I am clicking the edit vpn settings SETTINGSNETWORKVPNEdit VPN settings and nothing happens when I press the edit button. It higlights but nothing pops up to enter information. I am using firefox browser. I am using Nord VPN. I have the service credentials. I reinstalled Nord VPN and turned it on and now I cannot access SparkBox in my browser with Nord VPN running. I have to log out of it to load SparkBox. I also noticed when I left the settings tab to the apps tab and refreshed I saw a bunch of orange pop ups in upper left of screen stating -could not load services & could not load vpn configuraton. Tried it again on the settings tab and clicking the edit button serveral times but no joy. I see another way to edit the env file but not sure how to fill out: --- VPN (fill in via Settings to use media module) --- VPNPROVIDER= VPNTYPE=wireguard VPNUSER= VPNPASSWORD= WIREGUARDPRIVATEKEY= WIREGUARDADDRESSES= VPNENDPOINTIP= VPNENDPOINTPORT= OPENVPNCUSTOMCONFIG= SERVERCOUNTRIES= SERVERCITIES= SERVERHOSTNAMES=

You didn't break anything. Those orange 'could not load services / vpn configuration' pop-ups are the giveaway — the dashboard can't read its own settings files, and that's also why the Edit VPN button does nothing (it has nothing to open). Quick fix — in your SparkBox terminal, paste this one line: sudo chown -R 1000:1000 /opt/sparkbox/state && sudo docker restart sb-dashboard Give it about 30 seconds, refresh the page, and the orange errors should clear and the Edit button should open properly. One side note: you don't need NordVPN switched on on your own PC to use SparkBox — SparkBox runs its VPN itself, so leave Nord off in your browser and the page will load fine.

Before running that command I clicked the edit VPN settings and got an orange popup "could not load vpn configuration" (or something like that) but after running the command 'sudo chown -R 1000:1000 /opt/sparkbox/state && sudo docker restart sb-dashboard' and refreshing the dashboard the edit VPN settings button is doing nothing again. What is supposed to happen when that button is clicked? Also, if you tell me what fields need populated to manually enter Nord VPN credentials, I could try that. BTW - the orange dialog boxes close on their own after 5 seconds or so, when they appear, which they are not now. And just in case its significant - yesterday when the vpn settings button appeared to do nothing, no popups, I got the organge pop ups - several of them as i clicked alot - not on the settings tab but when I went to the home tab ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ well this is odd. before closing i clicked to home tab and a vpn configure form was frozen there, stuck and unable to populate or move to the top of the form and the home tab screen was in a fuzz behind it. Maybe this is a browser problem...its Linux Mint 22.3 with native FireFox....

Good progress — that command fixed the file-permission errors, which is why the orange 'could not load' popups stopped. The Edit VPN button is meant to open a panel where you choose your VPN provider and paste your credentials; since it highlights but opens nothing, let's see why. First try a hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R. That clears a stale cached copy of the dashboard, which can cause exactly this 'button does nothing' behavior. If it still won't open, press F12, click the 'Console' tab, then click Edit VPN once and copy any red error line here — that'll show me precisely why the panel isn't opening. And if you'd rather just get Nord running now, say so and I'll give you the handful of settings to enter by hand as a fallback. (Side note: needing to quit Nord's app to reach SparkBox is normal — once SparkBox's own VPN is set up for your media apps, you don't need Nord's desktop app running at all.)

Copy that. I have to book for now but will try your other suggestions when I get back. Thanks for the speedy replies.

Im going to use librewolf instead of FireFox. I am also going to get the vpn you suggested sparkbox was set up for. Is there anything i need to do beside just log onto sparkbox on the new browser? I assume all the downloads I did will still be there. Any suggestions? Also I went to Legend and there is no option for PayPal. Any way I can pay you with google play?

Good plan, easy answers. On the browser: nothing special — open Librewolf, go to your SparkBox address, and log in. Everything you set up, including the downloads you already started, lives on the server itself, not the browser, so it'll all still be there. Switching browsers is also smart here, since that stuck Edit VPN button looked Firefox-specific. Once you're on Surfshark, open Settings - Network - VPN - Edit and pick it as your provider; if the button still won't open in Librewolf, press F12 - Console, click Edit once, and paste any red line here so I can pin it down. On paying: the Legend checkout is card only (Visa/Mastercard/Amex) through our payment processor — there's no PayPal or Google Play option right now. If a card won't work for you, drop a DM to @tomspark and he'll sort it out with you directly.

unable to log onto sparkbox on Librewolf or FF. Made sure 'only https sites' not selected. VPN off. any ideas?

Let's find out which side it is with one quick test. On your phone, connected to the same home Wi-Fi, open a browser and go to the exact same SparkBox address. If your phone loads it, the problem is in your computer's browsers and we'll sort that. If your phone ALSO can't load it, then SparkBox itself stopped or its address changed, and we go that direction instead. Two things to double-check while you're at it: type the address starting with http:// (not https://), and make sure it's the same address that worked before — if your SparkBox machine rebooted, its IP can change on you. Tell me what the phone does and we'll zero right in.

Working now thanks. when you said "If a card won't work for you, drop a DM to @tomspark and he'll sort it out with you directly." DM where?

Glad it's working! To message me directly: click my username (@tomspark) to open my profile, then hit the 'Message' button — type your note and send, and it lands straight in my inbox.

i tried messaging you it wont let me. Can you msg me? I cant enter my vpn info so dead in the water also cannot update sparbox get message - release manifest unreachable

Quick update on the update problem: that "release manifest unreachable" message came from a hiccup on our release server around July 4th — it's fixed on our side now, so it should go through. Try it from Settings, then Updates. Updating matters here too, because newer versions fix a bug that made the Edit VPN button do nothing. Once you're updated, open Settings, Network, Edit VPN settings, pick NordVPN, set Protocol to OpenVPN, and enter your Nord service username and password — that's all it needs. And sorry the message button won't cooperate — just keep replying here, I see everything. If the update still complains or the form still won't open, tell me exactly what you see.
