SparkBox patches — Tue Oct 27, 2026
Posted by Chris
SparkBox releases shipped on Tue Oct 27, 2026 (UTC), in order, newest at the bottom. This thread is updated as releases land during the day. Update from the SparkBox dashboard, or run sudo sparkbox upgrade on your SparkBox host. Legend boxes get every release the day it ships; free boxes get it after it has run there for a week. If a problem remains after updating, submit a private support ticket or reply below with the app name, what you expected, and what happened instead. Earlier days: Sun Oct 25, 2026 · Wed Oct 21, 2026 · Tue Oct 20, 2026 · Mon Oct 19, 2026 · Sun Oct 18, 2026 · Sat Oct 17, 2026 · Fri Oct 16, 2026 v1.7.8 — Media Center installs without a VPN from the dashboard, and the checkup explains a port that is already taken - Media Center now installs from the dashboard after you choose "Skip the VPN for now". Before, it could still stop with "requires a configured VPN". - When an app never starts because something else on the machine already uses its port, sudo sparkbox doctor now names the port and shows how to see what holds it (on Windows too). It also says what to do, instead of only suggesting sudo sparkbox up. - Linkding no longer restarts every few minutes: it was given too little memory to start. - On a server installed from a root login, File Browser and the other apps can save into your data folders again. - The home page no longer calls a healthy app "restarting" after SparkBox restarted it itself. - The Media Center card now says "Finishing setup…" until your Jellyfin and Seerr logins are ready, instead of saying Running about two minutes early. - When the helper that gets your search sources past Cloudflare can't start its browser or can't look up sites through the VPN, the checkup now says which of the two it is and the one command to try, instead of calling it running. - sudo sparkbox update, up and restart no longer stop part-way without a word when Navidrome is running but was never set up, or when Audiobookshelf, Navidrome or Emby is restarting. - Wallos now installs cleanly on a fresh box: its administrator is made only after Wallos has finished setting itself up. - A new Wallos now starts in US dollars instead of euros. You can still change the currency in Wallos's settings. - Tdarr: the setup tips now tell you to set a new library's Transcode cache to /temp before its first scan, so its first transcodes don't fail. - Moving to a new box: sudo sparkbox restore --key-file now restores a backup made on your old box using that box's saved backup key. This box's own key stays as it is. - Settings → Backup → Local archives now has a "Saved backup key" box, so you can restore a backup made on another box from the dashboard. If the key is missing or wrong, it says which. - Settings no longer lists automatic updates as a Legend perk: every box already gets them for free. - You can now sign in to Ghost's admin at the address you actually open it at, like your server's home-network address or your own domain: set it once with sudo sparkbox set-env GHOSTURL followed by that address, and doctor names the address Ghost refused. - On a server you reach over the internet, doctor now tells you when the Media stack's Jellyfin or Seerr setup was never finished, and sudo sparkbox up media finishes it. - If Seerr stopped at every start because it had no Jellyfin key, sudo sparkbox up now gives it SparkBox's key and starts it again. - When you reset the Jellyfin password while Seerr is stopped or restarting, the message now says Seerr was not checked, instead of showing a confusing error code. - The Storage check on the home page no longer calls a library folder "extra" when your Jellyfin library already watches it. - When a backup fails, the Backups page now says why instead of showing a cut-off technical message. - When Tom AI reads an app's log before restarting it, it now says so in plain words instead of showing its own instructions. - The checkup now explains why a media drive under /run/media goes missing after a restart and how to mount it for good. - On a NAS, the media permission check no longer suggests changing who owns your whole library; it points you to the safer access grant instead. - Dashboard 3: the home page now says "Welcome to your box." - Jellyfin: when Jellyfin keeps restarting because its database is damaged and it has no saved copy to put back, sudo sparkbox repair-jellyfin-db media --start-over now starts it fresh in one step. Its old folder is kept aside and your movies and shows are not touched; make a new Jellyfin admin account right after. - Jellyfin: resetting the Jellyfin password from the dashboard or Tom AI now works on a box whose network address changed (it used to say Jellyfin could not be reached while Jellyfin was running). - Stopping SparkBox now also clears the Jellyfin playback scratch space older versions left behind, so the disk gets that room back. - Local AI: after removing Local AI's data and installing it again, Open WebUI now opens its setup page instead of a ‘Backend Required’ error in a browser that was signed in before. Still on 1.7.4 or older? Clear this site's cookies for port 8090, or use a private window. - Local AI: on a box without a graphics card the AI may now use all but one of your processor's cores instead of two, so answers come much sooner (set OLLAMACPUS to choose your own limit). - Installing or updating no longer freezes for many minutes on the dashboard's package download when one connection to the download server hangs; it tries again by itself. - Installing on an Arch Linux or Fedora PC that already has Docker no longer calls it an unsupported NAS or tells you to forward ports. - Windows: asking Tom AI about an app that won't open on this PC now tells Tom it is the Windows PC itself, so it checks the Windows causes. - Windows: the checkup no longer tells you to change Windows' firewall when an app is simply not answering; it says when the cause is only likely, and which line tests from Windows itself. - Vaultwarden: open the web vault at https://your-box-address:8223 — on the plain http address the vault would not let you create an account. Your browser warns once about the box's own certificate: choose Advanced, then continue. - V2/V3 dashboards: Settings → Network now has Custom domains (it opens the setup in the classic dashboard just for this), and the Vaultwarden HTTPS guide points there. - Dashboard: Settings → Passwords now shows the login of an app you just installed without refreshing the page. - Paperless-ngx and Remote Access VPN: installing from My apps no longer insists you fill in optional boxes (Paperless's own-domain address, the VPN panel password) — leave them blank and click Save & install. - SearXNG: the app description now says plainly that search engines see your home internet connection (they never see your browser, cookies or a search history). - Cloud Storage: the first-time setup page now has SparkBox's own database already filled in, so you only choose your admin name and password (it used to suggest a slower built-in database). - VPN: when a WireGuard connection keeps restarting, the checkup now measures your connection and tells you the exact packet size to set, instead of a list of numbers to try. - AdGuard Home: adding a very large blocklist, like HaGeZi's Threat Intelligence Feeds, no longer makes AdGuard Home keep restarting and stop answering DNS for your network. It may now use up to 1 GB of memory when a list needs it; on the default lists it still uses about 50 MB. - Apps that stay private on the box (CoolerControl and others) now show how to open them on the SparkBox machine itself, with nothing to put online. - The window that sets how an app is reached no longer talks about invites, guests and join codes for apps that have none, like CoolerControl or AdGuard Home. - Saving an app's memory or CPU limit no longer fails with "permission denied" on boxes where the setting folder belonged to the system account; restarting the dashboard or running sudo sparkbox up heals it.
