SparkBox patches — Mon Oct 19, 2026
Posted by Chris
SparkBox releases shipped on Mon Oct 19, 2026 (UTC), in order, newest at the bottom. This thread is updated as releases land during the day. Update from the SparkBox dashboard, or run sudo sparkbox upgrade on your SparkBox host. Legend boxes get every release the day it ships; free boxes get it after it has run there for a week. If a problem remains after updating, submit a private support ticket or reply below with the app name, what you expected, and what happened instead. Earlier days: Sun Oct 18, 2026 · Sat Oct 17, 2026 · Fri Oct 16, 2026 · Thu Oct 15, 2026 · Wed Oct 14, 2026 · Tue Oct 13, 2026 · Mon Oct 12, 2026 v1.6.978 — Each app is backed up before it updates, and undoing an update brings its data back - Before an app moves to a new version, SparkBox now backs up that app's own settings and database (never your media, photos or other files). The app stops for a moment while it is copied, so the copy is consistent. If the update goes wrong, undoing it brings back the previous version and the data from just before the update, even across a major version, and the app stays on that version until the next SparkBox release moves it on. The data the undo replaces is kept on the box for 7 days. - If that backup can't be made (for example the disk is too full, or the app's data is over 20 GB), the app is not updated: it keeps running its current version, and the Updates page says why and offers Update without a backup, which asks for your password. - In the V2 and V3 dashboards, each installed app's card has a Backups button: back up that one app now, restore it, download a copy, delete one, and choose how many to keep (3 by default). Restoring one app no longer means restoring the whole box. Restore, download and delete ask for your password again. - Pressing Update on one app now shows the version it moves from and to, a link to the app's release notes where SparkBox knows them, and "Back up first", ticked. v1.6.979 — A nearly full system disk clears Jellyfin's subtitle copies by itself - When the disk SparkBox itself lives on reaches 95% full, SparkBox now also clears the copies of subtitle fonts and subtitle tracks that Jellyfin makes from your videos as they play, once they take 1 GB or more. Jellyfin pauses for a moment and makes them again whenever a video needs them; your library, users, watch history and settings stay as they are, and the disk alert says how much room came back. Until now only unused app images were cleaned up at that point, which freed nothing when these copies had filled the disk while nobody was looking. To clear them yourself at any time: sudo sparkbox jellyfin-reclaim v1.6.980 — Asking Tom AI for an app SparkBox doesn't ship now shows how to add it yourself - Ask the assistant to install an app that isn't one of SparkBox's own (for example RomM) and it no longer just says no: it tells you how to add it yourself with Add your own app (Settings → General → Your box), and for RomM and Calibre-Web Automated it gives you our tested file to paste. If you already added the app yourself, it says so instead.
