SparkBox patches — Sat Oct 17, 2026
Posted by Chris
SparkBox releases shipped on Sat Oct 17, 2026 (UTC), in order, newest at the bottom. This thread is updated as releases land during the day. Update from the SparkBox dashboard, or run sudo sparkbox upgrade on your SparkBox host. Legend boxes get every release the day it ships; free boxes get it after it has run there for a week. If a problem remains after updating, submit a private support ticket or reply below with the app name, what you expected, and what happened instead. Earlier days: Fri Oct 16, 2026 · Thu Oct 15, 2026 · Wed Oct 14, 2026 · Tue Oct 13, 2026 · Mon Oct 12, 2026 · Sun Oct 11, 2026 · Sat Oct 10, 2026 v1.6.960 — An app's container gone? Tom AI now notices, names it and offers to bring it back - If one of your apps' containers is gone (removed by hand, cleared by a cleanup, or never created because a start failed), Tom AI used to look straight past it and could end without offering anything. It now names the missing app, says which part of SparkBox it belongs to, and offers to bring it back; once you tap Run it, the app is recreated with its settings and library kept. - Tom AI's chat now says what is true on your screen: the activity line under the chat counts checks and fixes and no longer calls your box healthy; after a restart Tom asks you to open the app and check, and to tell it if it still is not working; the free-trial notes no longer say a fix was your last when one is left, and no longer show a fixed price next to a sale. v1.6.961 — System disk full of Jellyfin's subtitle copies? One command now frees that space safely - When your system disk fills up, Jellyfin's own folder is often the reason: it keeps copies of the subtitle fonts and subtitle tracks inside your videos, and they grow with every video you play. These copies are safe to clear because Jellyfin makes them again when a video needs them, but nothing told you so. Run sudo sparkbox jellyfin-reclaim: it pauses Jellyfin, clears only those copies, starts Jellyfin again and tells you how much space came back. Your library, users, watch history and settings are not touched. - When the install disk is low, sudo sparkbox doctor now lists those subtitle copies with their size next to the other parts of Jellyfin's folder, and names the command that clears them. v1.6.962 — NVIDIA box, but Jellyfin's videos will not convert? The checkup now says how to give Jellyfin the GPU - If Jellyfin is set to convert videos with an NVIDIA card but SparkBox never handed the card to it, videos a player cannot play as-is would not play. sudo sparkbox doctor (and Tom AI) used to tell you to turn Jellyfin's GPU off, even when your NVIDIA card and Docker's NVIDIA support were ready, and on Windows it added a note about Intel and AMD cards that did not apply. Now it gives the one command that hands the card to Jellyfin: sudo sparkbox set-env JELLYFINHWACCEL nvidia && sudo sparkbox up media (or just sudo sparkbox up media when Hardware Transcoding is already set to nvidia). Your library and settings are kept. Turning the GPU off in Jellyfin stays as the other choice. v1.6.963 — SearXNG finds results again instead of every search site being blocked; app updates - SearXNG: searches could come back empty, with every search site listed as suspended, "access denied", "too many requests" or "CAPTCHA", and Google returning nothing at all. SparkBox was still installing a SearXNG from April, and the search sites have since changed how they turn away automated searches. SearXNG is now on its October build, which gets results again (through Startpage, DuckDuckGo and its newer Google engine). Update SparkBox and SearXNG restarts once on the new build; your settings file is kept. If you installed SearXNG before this update and Google still shows nothing, your settings file still lists April's search sites: put usedefaultsettings: true as its first line (keep your own changes below it) and run sudo sparkbox restart searxng to get the current list. - App updates: Homepage 2.6.0, Home Assistant 2026.10.2, Ollama 0.40.6, Open WebUI 0.12.3, Element 1.12.32, n8n 2.44.3 and Tunarr 2026.10.3. Your data and settings are kept; each app restarts once on its new version when you update it. v1.6.964 — Pressing Save and apply twice on an app override no longer leaves the app gone - Settings → Your box → "Change how a shipped app runs (overrides)": pressing Save and apply twice in a row (or once more right after typing your password) started a second restart of the app on top of the first, and the app could end up with no container at all, so it stayed down until someone ran sudo sparkbox up <app. Now a second Save and apply while the first is still running is turned away with "Nothing was saved" and asks you to wait; the buttons stay greyed out until the restart finishes; and instead of a blind "Saved" the page tells you how it ended: the app restarted with your settings, or which part did not come back, with Save and apply again to retry or Remove override to go back to the shipped settings. v1.6.965 — The checkup now says when your apps can't write into folders inside your library, and stops calling one VPN reconnect a loop - Dashboard home page: the Media card could keep saying "Media storage needs attention" (Radarr or Sonarr can see its library folder but isn't allowed to write to it) while the checkup, from Tom AI or sudo sparkbox doctor, said "All checks passed". The checkup only looked at the top of Movies, TV and Music; the card also looks at the folders inside them, and a folder copied in by another account (your NAS's own user, or Windows) fails there. Now the checkup runs the same test as the card and says how many folders in each library your apps can't write into, and that sudo sparkbox check-media-perms names them and prints the one command that lets your apps write there. New downloads can still arrive while this shows; it is upgrades, renames and imports into those folders that fail. - Right after the media apps restarted, the checkup could report "Gluetun reports healthy but its tunnel keeps rebuilding — nothing is getting through" although the VPN had simply reconnected once and was working. It now only says that when the VPN really keeps dropping: it reconnects again and again, or it reconnected and never came back.
