SparkBox patches — Sun Oct 4, 2026
Posted by Chris
SparkBox releases shipped on Sun Oct 4, 2026 (UTC), in order, newest at the bottom. This thread is updated as releases land during the day. Update from the SparkBox dashboard, or run sudo sparkbox upgrade on your SparkBox host. Legend boxes get every release the day it ships; free boxes get it after it has run there for a week. If a problem remains after updating, submit a private support ticket or reply below with the app name, what you expected, and what happened instead. Earlier days: Sat Oct 3, 2026 · Fri Oct 2, 2026 · Thu Oct 1, 2026 · Wed Sep 30, 2026 · Tue Sep 29, 2026 · Mon Sep 28, 2026 · Sun Sep 27, 2026 v1.6.852 — Change an installed app's options from My apps - In the V3 My apps page and the V2 App Store, an installed app with options you can change now has a Settings button. For Media Center that includes Request from inside Jellyfin (the heart button), Lidarr and Byparr; for Immich, its machine learning; for Nextcloud, OnlyOffice. Change what you want, press Save, and SparkBox restarts the app for you when the change needs it, and says so. Before, these options showed only when you first installed the app, so changing one later meant a trip to the classic dashboard. Passwords and keys are still changed in the classic settings. - When the fix you need is in a newer SparkBox, Tom AI now tells you to run sudo sparkbox upgrade, or to use Update SparkBox on the Updates page. It used to suggest sudo sparkbox update, which only refreshes your apps and never installs a newer SparkBox. v1.6.853 — Tom AI shows what it found when it runs out of steps - When Tom AI used up its steps before finishing an answer, all you got was "I dug into it but ran out of steps", and asking again started the same checks from scratch. Now it shows what its checks of your box found so far, and when you ask it to keep going it picks up from those results. - On the home page, "Into your library" said a waiting download "often clears on its own" even when Sonarr or Radarr gave a reason that never clears by waiting, such as "Found archive file, might need to be extracted". It now says the download won't move on its own, and Ask Tom AI passes the card's own advice along with your question (for an archive: install the free Unpackerr app from the App Store). v1.6.854 — A Jellyfin password reset that can't go through now tells you what to do - When Tom AI or the Reset button in Settings → Passwords tried to reset the Jellyfin admin password and Jellyfin would not let SparkBox in, all you saw was "the password reset command failed", and Tom AI handed the problem on instead of helping. Now you get the reason and the one step that fixes it — most often: if you made your own Jellyfin admin or changed its password inside Jellyfin, tell SparkBox that password with echo 'your-jellyfin-password' | sudo sparkbox reset-password jellyfin --resync, and the reset works from then on. v1.6.855 — Shelfarr audiobooks land in your Audiobookshelf library, and a finished setup step stops asking for attention - If you changed the Audiobooks Folder for Audiobookshelf (Settings → Audiobookshelf), books Shelfarr grabbed still went to the old default folder, so Audiobookshelf never showed them. Shelfarr now delivers audiobooks into the same folder Audiobookshelf reads, and changing that folder restarts Shelfarr along with Audiobookshelf. Books Shelfarr already delivered before this update are still in the default audiobooks folder of your SparkBox data folder; move them into your library folder once. - The classic dashboard's home page could keep saying "1 service needs attention" for a setup step such as shelfarr-init that had finished successfully, even after a refresh. A setup step that finished cleanly is no longer counted as a service that needs attention. v1.6.856 — NordVPN stops failing to sign in on some servers, and Unpackerr finds your downloads on any media drive - NordVPN over OpenVPN could fail with AUTHFAILED every day or so even though your NordVPN login was right and worked on every other device. It came back after a restart. SparkBox picked a NordVPN server at random from Nord's full list, which includes Dedicated IP servers that only accept the person who bought that address. SparkBox now uses only NordVPN's standard servers. If you pinned your own server hostnames (for example a Dedicated IP you bought), nothing changes for you. - If your media folder is anywhere other than /data (a NAS share or a second drive), Unpackerr looked for your downloads in the wrong place and did not unpack them. It now looks in the same downloads folder Sonarr, Radarr and qBittorrent use, whatever drive your media is on. v1.6.857 — Fixing your VPN after setup now gets downloads going without a terminal command - If your VPN wasn't working when you first set up SparkBox and you fixed it later in the dashboard, Sonarr and Radarr were never connected to qBittorrent and Prowlarr, so nothing ever downloaded until someone ran a command on the box. Saving your VPN settings, or restarting the Media apps from the dashboard, now finishes that setup by itself. If your box is stuck like this today, update SparkBox; if Sonarr still shows no download client afterwards, press Restart on the Media apps in the dashboard. v1.6.858 — The Legend offer waits for a good moment on new boxes, and its tally stays on your box - On some new free boxes, the one-time Legend offer now waits until your first app is up and running, or until Tom AI has fixed something for you, instead of appearing in the middle of setup. It never shows more often than before, and if a week goes by it goes back to its usual timing. - SparkBox now keeps a small tally of how often the Legend offer is shown, clicked or closed on your dashboard. It is only numbers, with nothing about you, your apps or your media, and it leaves your box only inside the daily health report when anonymous diagnostics are switched on in Settings and outcome sharing is left on. With either one off, the tally is cleared on your box every day and never sent. v1.6.859 — SABnzbd starts again after the box stopped while it was checking a download - If your box stopped (a power cut, or Windows shutting down SparkBox) right after SABnzbd's "Check before download" setting had finished checking a download, SABnzbd could fail to start every time after that: its page never opened and the dashboard kept showing it as unhealthy. SABnzbd now starts normally, and that download carries on from where it was, with nothing deleted. Update SparkBox (Settings, or sudo sparkbox upgrade) and SABnzbd recovers by itself. v1.6.860 — Tom AI explains how to set up the VPN on a box without the Media Center - On a box where the Media Center is not installed, the home page's connection card says the VPN is not configured, and asking Tom AI how to set it up got no clear answer. Tom AI now explains that SparkBox's VPN comes with the Media Center and walks you through it: open the App Store (My apps in the newer dashboard), switch on Media Center, and enter your VPN provider and its key when it asks. You need an active VPN subscription. v1.6.861 — Clearer fixes for media on an NTFS or exFAT drive, and for Authelia's first sign-in - If your media folder is on a drive formatted for Windows (NTFS) or for cameras and USB sticks (exFAT, FAT) and your apps could not write into some library folders, sudo sparkbox check-media-perms suggested a permissions command that cannot work on those drives. It now gives the one that does: put your apps' user id in that drive's line in /etc/fstab (uid= and gid=), then re-mount the drive. It prints both steps for your box. - Authelia: signing in at http://<your-box-IP:9091 seemed to do nothing, even with the right password, because Authelia only keeps you signed in over HTTPS. The Authelia app card and its guide now say so before you open it: set up your own web address (Settings → Custom Domains) and sign in at https://auth.<your domain with the same user and password.
