My question: On the Valheim server hosting app, how can I find or set the server admin password to get admin rights and edit things like difficulty or have access to console to spawn items for my friends. SparkBox AI replied: Valheim doesn’t have a separate admin password. The server password only lets you join; admin access is granted by adding your SteamID64 to the server’s admin list. I don’t have the exact setting or file path SparkBox uses for that list documented, so I won’t guess. Use Share to demox and Tom’s team can point you to the right place. What I still need help with: I need to find how to add my steamID64 to the server's admin list to get admin privileges

The AI was right that Valheim has no admin password, but it should have been able to tell you where the admin list lives on SparkBox. Sorry about that. Here are the steps: 1. Find your SteamID64. Join your server in Valheim and press F2. Your ID is the 17-digit number that starts with 7656. It also shows in the server's log when you join. 2. Add it to the admin list on the box. In a terminal on your SparkBox, run: sudo nano /opt/sparkbox/modules/valheim/config/adminlist.txt Put your ID on its own line. Each friend you want as an admin gets their own line too. Save with Ctrl+O and Enter, then exit with Ctrl+X. (SparkBox on a Windows PC: open PowerShell, run wsl -d SparkBox -u root, then run the same commands without sudo.) 3. Restart the server: sudo sparkbox restart valheim 4. Turn on the console in your game. In Steam, right-click Valheim → Properties → Launch Options and add -console. In game, F5 opens the console. As an admin you can kick and ban, and after typing devcommands you can spawn items, for example spawn Wood 50. To change the world's difficulty for everyone, use the server's world preset. Create /opt/sparkbox/state/overrides/valheim.yml with these four lines: services: valheim: environment: - SERVERARGS=-preset hard Then run sudo sparkbox up. The presets are casual, easy, normal, hard, hardcore, immersive and hammer. That file survives SparkBox updates. If adminlist.txt isn't in that folder, or F5 does nothing after the restart, reply with what you see and we'll take it from there. We're adding these steps to the Valheim tip in the dashboard and to our Valheim guide, so the assistant can point the next person to them.

That worked, thanks ! As a bonus question, what would I have to do to add mods if my friends want them at some point ?
Chris wrote:
Glad the admin-list steps worked! Mod setup depends on the specific mod, and some mods also require each player to install matching files. Which mod are you considering? Send its name or the mod page link, and I’ll verify the server and player steps before asking you to change anything.

What about Extended player inventory mod, for example
Chris wrote:
I can't confirm from the name alone whether that mod needs a server-side install, a matching install for each player, or both, and I don't want to guess. Could you send the mod's Thunderstore or Nexus page link? I'll check its current instructions against the SparkBox Valheim setup before giving you steps; please don't install anything yet.

Thanks for the exact mod page. I can't verify its current installation instructions right now, so I don't want to guess whether it needs files on the server, on each player's PC, or both. Please hold off on installing it for now. Could you paste the page's Requirements and Installation sections here? I'll check those against the SparkBox Valheim setup before suggesting a step.

Equipment and Quick Slots by RandyKnapp, rewritten by MidnightsFX Version 3.0 is a complete rewrite. Give equipped items their own dedicated inventory slots — Head, Chest, Legs, Shoulder, Utility and Trinket — plus up to six hotkeyable quick slots. Client-side installable; does not need to be on servers. When the server does run the mod (requires Jotunn), the balance settings (slot toggles, quick slot count, keep-on-death) are server-synced and admin-controlled. Existing 2.x characters are migrated automatically on first login. Do not downgrade to 2.x after saving under 3.0 — the automatic slot backup protects your items, but the old format is not written anymore. Quick slot hotkeys no longer trigger vanilla actions on the same key. Optional extra utility slots (Equipment Slots / Utility Slot Count, 1–3, default 1): wear more than one belt, Wishbone or Megingjord. Off by default and server-synced, because it is a balance change. You can never wear two copies of the same item, and the extra items show on your character for everyone. Configurable keep-on-death and auto-equip-on-gravestone-pickup behavior. Other mods can add custom slots through the API — see docs/API.md. Thanks—that excerpt answers it: the basic mod is client-side, so each friend who wants it installs it on their own PC; you don't need to change the SparkBox server. The installation line you pasted says to put EquipmentAndQuickSlots.dll in that PC's BepInEx/plugins folder. The excerpt doesn't include the Requirements section, so check the mod page's current BepInEx requirements before installing. Its server-side option is only needed if you want the mod's balance settings controlled and synced by the server.
