SparkBox patches — Thu Oct 1, 2026

SparkBox releases shipped on Thu Oct 1, 2026 (UTC), in order, newest at the bottom. This thread is updated as releases land during the day. Update from the SparkBox dashboard, or run sudo sparkbox upgrade on your SparkBox host. Legend boxes get every release the day it ships; free boxes get it after it has run there for a week. If a problem remains after updating, submit a private support ticket or reply below with the app name, what you expected, and what happened instead. Earlier days: Wed Sep 30, 2026 · Tue Sep 29, 2026 · Mon Sep 28, 2026 · Sun Sep 27, 2026 · Sat Sep 26, 2026 · Fri Sep 25, 2026 · Thu Sep 24, 2026 v1.6.823 — n8n stays running after it starts - On newer n8n versions the app could quietly restart a few seconds after starting, over and over, because it ran out of memory for its helper process. n8n now gets up to 768 MB instead of 512 MB and stays up. Nothing to do: your workflows and settings are untouched, and the change applies the next time n8n starts after the update. v1.6.824 — Find your media folder settings from the Version 2 and 3 dashboards - Where your movies, shows, downloads and photos are kept (Media Root, Photos Path) and the video quality for new downloads could only be changed in the classic dashboard, and help pointed at a Settings → Media page that does not exist. Version 2 and 3 now have Settings → Server Config → Media folders → Open media settings, which opens those settings in the classic dashboard once without changing your dashboard choice. Tom AI and the guides now send you to Settings → Server Config → Media. v1.6.825 — System metrics start on Windows PCs - On a Windows PC (and some NAS models), the part of the Metrics app that reads your machine's CPU, memory and disk use never started and sat in "created", so the System dashboard in Grafana had no host data. It now starts on every box. Nothing to do: it starts after the update. A drive you plug in later shows up in the charts after the next restart or update. v1.6.826 — Remove works on an app that would not uninstall - If removing an app did not fully finish, the App Store went back to showing Install while Home kept showing the app as installed and crashing, and there was no way to remove it from the dashboard. The App Store now shows that app as installed, so Remove is there again and clears it off the box. If a removal cannot finish, the app now stays installed so you can press Remove again. Nothing to do: update, then press Remove on the app. v1.6.827 — VPN card and download advice stay current, Tunarr live channels stop crashing - On the Version 2 and 3 dashboards, the Overview VPN card could keep saying "Not configured" after you set up Media Center and the VPN was already connected, until you reloaded the page. The card now checks the VPN again on its own every little while and whenever you come back to the tab. Nothing to do: update, then reload the dashboard once. - When downloads were stuck because nobody was sharing that copy any more, the top of the Media Pipeline card (and the System card) told you to restart the download app. A restart only reloads the same dead copies. It now says to try a different copy, which is the button under the Download app step. Restart is only suggested when the download app itself is down. - Tunarr could crash the moment a live channel started playing in Jellyfin, then Jellyfin showed "Connection refused" for Live TV. Tunarr now has enough memory for its own server, its search index and a live channel together. The app card now lists about 1 GB of memory for Tunarr instead of 400 MB. Nothing to do: the update applies it. - On the Version 3 dashboard, an app tile's ⋮ menu (Restart, Stop, Show saved password, View logs) opened in the top-left corner of the page, far from the tile. It now opens right under the ⋮ button. Reload the dashboard after updating. - On new boxes, Jellyfin called itself by a random string of letters and numbers in its header, the browser tab and every Jellyfin app's server list. It is now called SparkBox. If you already gave your server a name, it is left alone. You can rename it any time in Jellyfin under Dashboard → General. v1.6.828 — New servers install cleanly, the sale price shows right, and game server folders are easy to find - Installing SparkBox on a brand-new cloud server could stop in the first minute with "Could not get lock" and "Install failed before SparkBox came up", because the new server was still running its own automatic updates. The installer now waits for those updates to finish, tells you it is waiting, and then carries on. Nothing to do: run the one-line install as usual. - During a sale, a freshly installed box could show the Legend offer at the regular price under the sale banner, because the box could not reach our site yet when the page first asked for the price. The dashboard now asks again after a couple of minutes and the offer updates on its own. - On the Version 3 dashboard, Ctrl K ("Find an app or setting") only found apps and pages. It now also finds every Settings tab and section, such as Backup or Network, and takes you straight there. - On the Version 2 and 3 dashboards, Lidarr, Chaptarr and Notifiarr showed as running even if you had never turned them on. They now appear only once you turn them on, each with its own status. - On the Version 2 and 3 dashboards, the Escape key now closes the Customize sheet, the same as Done. - The Valheim, Factorio, Terraria, Project Zomboid, Minecraft Bedrock and Kiwix tips said their worlds and settings were in the File Browser app, which cannot show those folders. The tips and guides now give the folder on the box, for example /opt/sparkbox/modules/valheim/config. The Valheim tip also explains admin rights: add your SteamID64 (press F2 in the game) on its own line in adminlist.txt in that folder, then run sudo sparkbox restart valheim. - Backer and Legend boxes now show a short "Put SparkBox on your phone" note on the Overview when you open the dashboard on a phone, with the steps for iPhone (Safari, Share, Add to Home Screen) and Android (Chrome, ⋮, Install app). Tap Got it to hide it. Help has the same steps for every box, and says that Android needs your https:// address to open SparkBox full screen. v1.6.829 — Tom AI explains friendly names for your own apps and how to add a cloud drive for Plex - If you added your own app and asked Tom AI for a friendly name for it (like myapp.sparkbox.home.arpa), it said the name was not set up and that it did not know how to add one. Tom AI now tells you exactly what to add to your app's settings file, the same line that gives it an Open button, and then to press Check now in Settings → Addresses. Tom AI also lists every friendly name on your box now, not just the first eight. - Asked how to set up a cloud or streaming drive (such as rclone) for Plex, Tom AI could suggest a setup that SparkBox ignores, so Plex never saw the drive. Tom AI now tells you to mount the drive inside your media folder, where Plex, Jellyfin, Sonarr and Radarr all see it with no extra setup, and to restart those apps once it is mounted. v1.6.830 — Installing the Media Center finishes on "installed and running" again - Since 1.6.828, installing the Media Center from the app store ended with "installed but not running yet" even though every app had started. The extra apps that stay off until you turn them on (Lidarr, Chaptarr, Notifiarr) were being counted as apps that failed to start. They are now left out while they are off, so the install finishes on "installed and running" when your apps are up. If you turn one of them on, it is checked like any other app. Nothing on your box needs fixing: if you saw that message, your apps were already running. v1.6.831 — Tom AI offers the Jellyfin password reset when you say you can't log on - Telling Tom AI "I can't log on to Jellyfin" (or "log into" or "sign into") did not count as saying you can't sign in, so it held back the password reset and repeated the same sentence several times instead. Those words now count, and Tom AI offers the Reset button for you to confirm. The new password appears in Settings → Service Passwords, never in the chat. If Tom AI declines a fix, you now see its reason once, in plain words. v1.6.832 — New downloads show up in Jellyfin without waiting for a library scan - A movie or episode Radarr or Sonarr had just filed could sit in your Movies or TV folder without appearing in Jellyfin until its next library scan. Radarr and Sonarr now tell Jellyfin about every import, upgrade, rename and delete, so new files show up in Jellyfin within about a minute. You will see an entry called "Jellyfin (SparkBox)" under Settings → Connect in each app. If you already added your own Jellyfin or Emby entry there, it is left exactly as it is. v1.6.833 — Downloading a backup from the classic dashboard asks for your password instead of failing - On the classic dashboard, Settings → Backup → Download could fail with "Unauthorized" in your browser's downloads. Downloading a backup needs your dashboard password from the last 10 minutes, and the Download button never asked for it. It now asks for your password when the box needs it, then the download starts. The new dashboard's Backup panel already worked this way.
