Hi, I am trying to connect my surfshark VPN. Since I have surfshark it should be quite standard I image. However I keep running into the same error: Restart failed: most likely cause faulty city. But the city is not filled in as it is optional. I used the following info: VPN provider: Surfshark Protocol: wireguard wireguard address: default Then imported a wireguard .conf file and saved Tried different VPN counties in the config file as well. Thanks in advance

Update the logs show it is trying to connect to switzerland city peru, which is not valid. This is not the entered data in the form

Problem was solved by clean slate install with proper config at first try

Thanks for confirming. I’m glad the clean setup connected, but seeing an invalid location that was not in the form data still sounds wrong. I’ve logged this and our team is investigating it; you do not need to change anything else while the new setup is working.

Hi there. Just starting. And having same problem with vpn and city error. How do you do clean slate install or total noob guide. Thanks. Got surf Shark. In Uk

Please don’t use Factory Reset yet—it erases app configuration and data. First, open the SparkBox dashboard’s Updates page and reply with the exact Current version shown there, plus whether you run SparkBox on Windows with WSL, Docker Desktop, Linux, or a NAS. I’ll then give you the right non-destructive next step for the Surfshark city error.

Hi Current version: 1.6.665 lastest update. And running on a ugreen nas in the uk with surfshark. Hope you can help. Still all new to this. Edit vpn settings what are the correct settings for each section. Thanks

Thanks — that establishes a UGREEN NAS on the current 1.6.665 release. Please do not use Clean Slate or Factory Reset; neither is a verified solution for this, and either can remove your settings and data. One read-only check: on the dashboard’s VPN card, choose Edit, but do not click Save & Restart. Tell me exactly what, if anything, appears in VPN Server Countries and VPN Server Cities. Those two values are enough—please do not share the WireGuard file, private key, or full log. I’m checking whether a stale city filter is involved. Stop after that check and I’ll give the next safe action.

both blank
Chris wrote:
Thanks for checking - both blank confirms what we suspected. This matches a bug we've now tracked down: a leftover city value from an earlier setup attempt can still get used by the VPN even after the dashboard shows the city field empty, so this isn't something you're doing wrong. One more read-only check to confirm it's the same thing on your box: sudo docker logs sb-gluetun --tail 50 Tell me what country/city name shows up in the error line, if any. No changes yet - once I see that, I'll give you the exact fix instead of another reinstall.
