Going the LXC route works too (it's lighter), it just needs a couple of host-side tweaks for networking — install normally, then run sudo sparkbox doctor once it's up. It detects LXC automatically and prints the exact fix if anything's missing. Since you're reinstalling, run sudo sparkbox backup on the old box first if you can still reach it — that grabs your config and settings so you're not starting from zero.
